Tuesday, August 2, 2022, NGJ’s Senior Director (Acting), Roxanne Silent, and Chief Curator, O’Neil Lawrence welcomed and provided a guided tour of the Kingston Biennial 2022: Pressure exhibition to Namibian Ministers the Honourable, Christine //Hoebes, Minister in the Presidency (representing the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation) and the Honourable Dr. Itah Kandjii-Murangi, Minister of Higher Education, Innovation & Training, both of the Republic of Namibia. The Ministers were also greeted and accompanied by Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade and Senator the Honourable Thomas Tavares-Finson, O.J., C.D., Q.C., J.P., President of the Senate and Chairman of the National Gallery of Jamaica.
“I am delighted to welcome Ministers //Hoebes and Kandjii-Murangi who are here to participate in the Inaugural Meeting of the Jamaica-Namibia Joint Committee as well as our Jamaica60 celebrations. Since one of the focal areas of their visit is culture, we intend to immerse our special guests in Jamaica’s vibrant spirit, through our performing arts, including music and dance, which they will experience at the Grand Gala. Today, I’m particularly pleased to accompany our Namibian sisters on their tour of our National Gallery to experience some of Jamaica’s visual arts treasures, including the Pressure exhibition which is part of our Diamond Jubilee celebrations.”
