My unrestricted oeuvre floats, anchored in an expansion of Black culture, existing in an ephemeral sea of Blackness that employs a wide variety of metaphors. For instance, the earlier works in my corpus on the subject of sports, particularly football/soccer, tennis, and boxing, are vibrant metaphors signalling the continuous plantation pressure heaped on Black sports stars.

In Europe, in the case of football/soccer, underperformance by Black players is met with unmitigated racial abuse, meted out by certain White fans. Bananas are thrown onto the football field and ape sounds are enacted. The recent defeat of England by Italy resulted in a bombardment of racial abuse aimed at the three Black players, namely, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Jadon Sancho, who had underperformed their penalty shots. This racist fiasco went viral on social media. My work Kick That, featured in the Kingston Biennial, investigates this White performance of ongoing violent pressure on the Black body. I am committed to the essential role that culture can play in the construction of inclusive, diverse, progressive societies.
