The John Pringle Collection comprises twenty-three paintings produced by Jamaican Intuitive Mallica “Kapo” Reynolds, donated to the National Gallery of Jamaica by the Pringle estate in 2011. As Jamaica’s first Director of Tourism, Ambassador John Pringle played a vital role in promoting Jamaican visual art, including the work of the of Intuitive Art.
This particular assembly of Kapo works add a wider range of paintings by him to the overall permanent collection. Additionally, it provides an increased variety of themes explored by this prolific self-taught Jamaican artist and a wider span of time during which Kapo was engaged in artistic production. Together, the Larry Wirth and the John Pringle Collections make Mallica ‘Kapo’ Reynolds the most comprehensive of any artist represented at the National Gallery of Jamaica.
