    The National Gallery of Jamaica was founded in 1974 and was located at the Devon House mansion on the corner of Waterloo Road and Hope Road, in the parish of St. Andrew.

    There are exhibition opportunities in submission-based exhibitions such as the Summer Exhibition, for which notices can be found on this website. Please note, acceptance is not guaranteed, as this is subject to the decision of the selection panel and/or curators. The NGJ selects and curates its own exhibitions and does not accept solo exhibition requests from artists.

    No. The NGJ is not a commercial gallery and as such does not sell artwork or act as a broker for those seeking to sell their work. However, the Gift Shop does sell reproductions of works in the permanent collection as well as works made by artists.

    Yes. for the Permanent Collection all works are owned by the Gallery unless otherwise stated. Additionally, even though the works of the Permanent Collection are owned by the NGJ, the Gallery does not own the copyrights and image rights for these creative expressions. Therefore, permission for reproduction must be sought from the artists or their estates. Temporary, special exhibitions often have works owned by collectors and other institutions.

    Formal proposals to donate works of art, or art-related objects to the NGJ Permanent Collection must be posted or emailed to:

    Proposals must include a description of the item(s) and its conditions, as well as professionally developed photographs of the item(s).

    No, but we can direct you to qualified private art appraisers.

    Photography of works on display is allowed for visitors to the NGJ, so long as they are taken with the Flash feature on the cameras and other devices turned off as this can damage the artwork. Requests to professionally photograph images or shoot film by the media personnel or any other entity for the purpose of publication and advertisement is allowed only through permission of the Senior Director of the NGJ. Such requests should be emailed formally to this address: info@natgalja.org.jm.

    No. The NGJ cannot be rented for exhibitions.

    Yes. The NGJ has an Events Hosting facilitation for select events. Please click here to download guidelines.

    Yes, by booking an appointment with the Education Department. The NGJ has a small Archives and Publication Collection, which provides information for the NGJ permanent art collections, past exhibitions and public programs of the museum. It houses various books on visual art techniques, exploring visual arts in Jamaica and the Caribbean region through historiographic and cultural perspectives. Other materials include periodicals, dictionaries, scrapbooks and artist files that comprise the Gallery’s permanent collections and other exhibitions.
